Description

We are seeking a Laboratory Research Technician to join Professor Udo Oppermann in the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, based in the Botnar Research Centre, University of Oxford.

You will join an interdisciplinary team of experimental scientists and clinical researchers studying epigenetic mechanisms that are relevant for the pathogenesis of bone loss during rheumatoid arthritis. You will be part of a strategic program that investigates mesenchymal stem cells which are able to regenerate bone cells and you will employ a combination of in vitro cellular and molecular biology techniques, pre-clinical models of disease and primary patient samples.

Main responsibilities will include cell culture and biological functional assays of musculoskeletal tissues including mesenchymal stem cells and bone as well as general laboratory maintenance, e.g. maintaining stocks and ordering laboratory supplies and consumables. Duties will also include teaching experimental techniques and providing supervision of new lab members within the laboratory.

You will hold a BSc in Biological science (or equivalent experience) and have previous laboratory experience as well as experience of cell culture techniques and basic molecular biology, e.g. PCR, RNA isolation, Western Blot and microscopy. The ability to work co-operatively as part of a team, as well as independently while taking personal responsibility for assigned tasks is essential. Experience of stem cell culture and in training individuals in laboratory techniques would be desirable.

This is a full time fixed term appointment for 2 years in the first instance.
