Babraham Instsitute, Cambridge

Description

The Babraham Institute is a charity which is world renowned for its research in life sciences to enhance lives and improve wellbeing.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Houseley laboratory at the Babraham Institute, Cambridge, as part of a Wellcome Trust-funded team investigating mechanisms of genetic change that underlie drug resistance in eukaryotic cells.

This research project addresses how transcriptomic changes associated with growth in adverse environments can stimulate gene copy number variation (CNV). CNV can give rise to drug resistant mutant cells, so defining mechanisms that promote CNV would provide new drug targets for inhibiting the emergence of resistance to antibiotics and chemotherapeutics.

This position would suit a candidate with a background in chromatin, recombination, genome stability or molecular evolution in yeast. The successful applicant will investigate mechanisms of CNV in yeast, determining how local recombination rates are influenced by environmentally-responsive gene expression patterns using molecular, genetic and genome-wide approaches. It provides the opportunity for a highly motivated scientist to carry out important fundamental research in the supportive environment of the Houseley Lab within a world class research institute.
