Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology
Description
The Pombo lab is looking for an outstanding postdoctoral research fellow with a background in bioinformatics, biostatistics or computational biology with an interest in studying long-range chromatin contacts and gene regulation in mammalian cells. The candidate should have experience in analysing next-generation sequencing data, and will take a leading role in developing algorithmic tools to analyze "Genome Architecture Mapping (GAM)" data, a novel technology recently developed in the Pombo lab to map the 3-dimensional structure of the genome, which is orthogonal to 3C technologies. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within an international and interdisciplinary research team of molecular and cellular biologists, bioinformaticians and physicists to design analyses and test specific biological hypotheses.
Qualifications
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or a related discipline
- Relevant experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data (DNA/RNA-seq, ChIP-seq or other)
- Experience in the analysis of 3C-based methods (3C, 4C, 5C, Hi-C) is preferred but not essential
- Very good programming skills in bioinformatics and programming- and script-languages (e.g. Python, Perl, R, MatLab)
- Good understanding of biology and a desire to work synergistically in direct collaboration with experimentalists
- Teamwork skills, the ability to work closely with an interdisciplinary research team
- Interest in training junior researchers and sharing bioinformatic knowledge
- Open-minded, creative and communicative person
- Very good English skills
Salary
