The Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) is a Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences, funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, and located in Mainz, Germany. Applications are invited for a staff scientist position in the laboratory of Dr. Vijay Tiwari. The staff scientist will contribute to research on epigenetic regulation of cell-fate specification during development and disease and will support the group leader in smooth running of the laboratory at various levels. The group employs cutting-edge epigenetics and molecular biology tools in combination with genomics and computational biology approaches to generate comprehensive models of epigenetic regulation of gene expression during embryonic development and its misregulation in disease.
You will- Study epigenetic mechanisms that contribute to development and disease
- Oversee and manage research and development activities within group
- Conduct and perform collaborative research and effectively interact with a broad range of colleagues and researchers
- Design experiments, conduct research and lead the group in establishing complex molecular biology protocols
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all research activities within the group
- Support the group leader in grant applications and management
- Collaborate with internal and external partners
Required Qualifications
- PhD in molecular biology, neurobiology, epigenetics, biochemistry or developmental biology and some postdoctoral experience. Familiarity with computational tools and ability to interact with bioinformaticians will be a plus.
- Strong expertise in soft skills such as scientific writing (in both English and German), presentations, interpersonal skills and communication
- Experience to team build, coach, guide, and effectively manage researchers will be advantageous
- Strong analytical, organizational, and record-keeping skills
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and research software programs
- Interest in working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team
- Willing to collaborate with internal and external collaborators as well as supporting group members
