It soon became clear that both initiatives could benefit from a close interaction and, as an initial step, a joint meeting was organized in Palermo on June 3-4, 2013, which brought together 41 PIs and representatives from some European funding agencies. Intense scientific sessions were complemented by a special session dedicated to exchange ideas regarding the possible strategies to further integrate and consolidate the European epigenetics & systems biology communites. The next stepping stones on the path into the future are to explore the possibility to found an EpiGenetics society and to write a white paper that can be communicated to the national delegations for Horizon2020.
