How specific chromatin domains such as centric and pericentric heterochromatin or the inactive X-chromosome are replicated and maintained from one cell generation to the next is an important question in epigenetics. Our research indicates important roles for several chromatin remodeling factors in this process. Currently we are using mouse genetics to elucidate what is the role of these factors in normal development and healthy ageing.
