Advancing Epigenetics Towards Systems Biology

Postdoctoral position bridging epigenomics, chromatin engineering and chemical biology

University Of Zurich

Description

We are searching for a postdoctoral fellow to join our group working on an interdisciplinary SNF-Sinergia project involving four laboratories at the University of Zurich - spanning functional genomics, medicinal chemistry, structural biology, biophysics and developmental biology.

Chemical modifications of histones, the proteins around which the genetic material is wrapped, provide an important regulatory layer for gene expression control. In this context, protein domains function as readers of specific chemical modifications, guiding recruitment of regulatory factors to the genome. Molecules interfering with readout of these modifications have emerged as important chemical probes to study chromatin and gene regulation. This project aims to bridge functional genomics with medicinal chemistry and biophysics to study epigenetic modulation of transcriptional processes. The project is carried out in the Baubec lab, in close collaboration with Nevado, Caflisch and Mosimann labs at Uni Zurich.

Qualifications

The candidate should have a PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or equivalent; a background in chromatin biology and gene regulation; and a strong interest in genome engineering, quantitative biology and interdisciplinary research. Candidates should have first or co-author publications in the respective field, are expected to be able to work independently and in teams, and have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Salary

starting at 75.500,- CHF

The appointment is initially for two years with possibility of extension based on performance. Candidates are furthermore encouraged to apply for competitive postdoctoral fellowships.
