Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB), Mainz, Germany

Description

The newly founded Institute of Molecular Biology gGmbH (IMB) is a Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences, funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, and located in Mainz, Germany. Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher position in the laboratory of Dr. Vijay Tiwari (www.imb-mainz.de/research-at-imb/tiwari).The successful applicant will contribute to internationally competitive research on Epigenetic Regulation of Cellular Differentiation.
The group employs high-throughput epigenomics assays such as ChIP-seq and RNA-seq in combination with stem cell biology and cutting-edge epigenetics and molecular biology tools. The resulting datasets are analysed using computational and systems biology approaches to generate a comprehensive model of chromatin-mediated transcriptional control during cellular differentiation.

You will

  • Study epigenetic regulatory mechanisms that contribute to cellular differentiation
  • Analyse epigenomics datasets for solving complex biological questions as well as develop novel analytical tools and algorithms for improved data analysis
  • Perform mathematical modelling of gene regulatory networks and develop tools to uncover interaction networks at systems biology level
  • Work in close cooperation with experimental researchers to facilitate novel discoveries
  • Obtain training in epigenomics, computational biology, stem cell biology, developmental biology, cell signalling and proteomics
  • Have access to all IMB Core Facilities including Bioinformatics support by experts
  • Work in close collaboration with the group leader and other group members
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
• PhD in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology or Systems Biology or related areas
• At least one first author paper in an international peer reviewed journal
• Extensive experience in analyzing high throughput genomics datasets including ChIP-seq and RNA-seq
• Programming skills in one of the following languages: Perl, C/C++, SBML, Fortran or Shell scripting
• Experience with analytic tools such as R, SAS, SPLUS Matlab, Cytoscape and Copasi will be a plus
• Motivation to solve complex biological problems especially in the field of epigenomics and experience in productively working in an interdisciplinary environment
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Highly motivated and self-driven to address and challenging questions in the field of epigenomics

Salary

We offer

  • The possibility to work on cutting-edge projects using state-of-the-art technology
  • A stimulating, diverse and international research environment
  • Advanced training opportunities
  • Career development
  • Competitive salary
